The Price of Religion

This work explores and tries to raise awareness to the consumeristic world we live in through the context of religion. Many places of worship and sanctuaries are also marketplaces via their attached gift shops where the devote and religious tourists, who are often already in a heightened emotional and suggestive state, are goaded into buying materialistic representations of their spiritual beliefs, as well as a way to pay their own promises. This project was shot with a phone using the Hipstamatic app.

All photos taken in S. Bento da Porta Aberta and Fátima, Portugal.
